Fire Station No. 9 is the oldest surviving fire station in San Diego. The May 30, 1912 San Diego Union had an article that reported groundbreaking for its construction: "Among the building permits issued yesterday were two for new fire engine houses, one to be built on 30th Street, between Ivy and Juniper, in the Brooklyn Heights district, and the other on Goldfinch Street... These buildings will be known as one-company houses, having accommodations for four men and an auto chemical engine or steamer and hose wagon. They will be built of brick and reinforced concrete and will contain six rooms. Ground will be broken for the buildings this week." |
